Suit Up show

The opening of the Suit Up exhibition took place at No Vacancy Gallery last Friday (13th of Feb), and I have only just found the time to write stuff about it, gah, organising this stuff takes soooo long, and does not stop after the show starts! We still have ALLOT of decks to quality control and collate, the suitupshow site is getting to proper launch stage and promo has to continue. When all this is finally over Kate and I will be posting a blog on the dos and donts of running a large collaborative project like this - fun and informative!

First here are Kate and my Jokers..

After we got all the artwork and designed the pack of cards, the insane amount of work was collating the damn things, we saved a hell of allot of money doing it ourselves and it would have been fine if it wasnt for the quality control issues that resulted from non standard back printing. This made the job at least twice as long. Massive thanks go to the artists who gave their time to help out.

Setting up the show at the gallery was about 2 and a half days work, thanks to the artists who came down and painted the back wall, and to Chewie and the gallery kids for their help.

.

We took the opportunity to take some nerdy group shots, which most of the Melbourne guys turned up to..

Then it was show time, thanks to those who came for the opening night, and making it one of the biggest I’ve seen at No Vacancy. Respect goes out to the people came to support the art, far less respect goes out to the Moocher Massive - the hipster, sceenster, bike courier crew who come for one thing FREE BEER.
When we opened the doors there was a massive rush in of people, most who went straight to the bar, but then a respectable number of people also went straight in to purchase cards, and the two lines were comprable for most of the night, which was gratifying.

Below is the crowd surge.. the bar is on the right in the picture, you can see where most are headed. Then there is Kate and I beginning to relax a little.

Here is a random selection of the crowd, we have the gallery going usual suspects. As well as quite a few people who actually dressed up and made something of the night.
