McKelly and Other Things That Keep Me From Blogging

This is a picture of Sean and I working on McKelly

Now that I’m a care free, work at home, creative type I seem to have forgotten my blog.

This is particularly funny seeing as I wrote an article for Vectortuts+ with the advice “Always remember to maintain your blog”. So here I am, trying out my own advice. For those who don’t know I handed in my job at the software company to become more focused on my illustration career. So here I am, working as the Associate Editor at Vectortuts+ and the co-Director of McKelly.

McKelly is a collaborative project between myself and Sean Kelly (get it? McInnesKelly!) which will take another few weeks of work before you see anything online (another reason why I’ve been quiet). Starting a new entity is hard work, I take for granted the fact that LoungeKat has evolved over 7 years, growing from an amateurish deviantART account into a folio of work, a host of social networking pages and a neglected blog. McKelly won’t be officially launched until we have a substantial folio of work (which will include, motion graphics, illustration and some design) and skinned the blog (yet another one for me to neglect).

Here’s our new business card

McKelly does have a Twitter account if you want to check it out, but it’s mostly about random comments and links. We will be announcing the launch of our folio on it, so it may be best to follow us if you’re interested.

About McKelly: Kate McInnes and Sean Kelly began working together in 2008 after a chance meeting at a group exhibition in Melbourne, Australia. Both working in the medium of Vector, they immediately found a shared passion for illustration and design. It wasn’t until 2010, after staging the SuitUp exhibition and working together on various project, that they decided to join forces and become McKelly. McKelly are obsessed with Skulls, Hot Women, Guitars, E-waste and believing these things have something to do with the Apocalypse.

That’s about it for now, I’m drawing like crazy but because it’s all McKelly you won’t see anything for a while. When you do see the work, there will be many exciting and excelent images, it really will be worth the wait!

Something Old, Something New…

Hi everyone, it’s been too long between posts from me!

Something Old

Back in October last year I was approached to draw a portrait of Nikki Jean, nothing ended up happening with the project so I filed under ‘F for Forget-about-it’, but then thought that I should at least post it up here so people can take a look. The brief was to draw something her fans would associate with things she enjoys - like baking cakes and hanging out with her cute dog. Unfortunately I couldn’t bust out with the usual LoungeKat sexy heart-breaker themes and found that this one fell a bit short of everyone’s expectations, but I still think it’s pretty.

Something new

As some of you may already know, I’ve spent the last 3 years of my design career working in-house. Over these years I’ve lived a crazy 14 hour a day, 7 days a week lifestyle and more recently have found myself with more projects than I can manage. So it’s with much joy and a dash of nervousness that I’m announcing - as of next week - I’m a full time freelancer!

I promise to post some ‘regular’ LK work as soon as I’m finished!

Also, I haven’t forgotten about my newsletter subscribers - as you can imagine - I’m flat out at the moment. I have a stack of sketches to share very soon!

Happy New Year, I’m currently away from the computer.

kat_fail

I’ve returned from a week of rest, relaxation and Playstation - I’m feeling better than ever and I’m ready to work my bum off this year. 2008 was the year of exhibitions, 2009 was markets, blogs, freelance and Suit Up (and the post Suit Up creative hangover) - 2010 is all about new work .

This means less computer and more pencil and paper...

But everything is going to be O.K! I’ll be sending special “Subscriber Only” previews of my work and a bit of random art banter for good measure.

In other news, I was interviewed by Sean Hodge from Vectortuts.com.
Read it here

That’s about it for now,
Kat.
